3D Puzzle Logic

I have always wondered about the idea of 3D scripting with the logic functions being defined as 3D shapes. A couple of years ago I started experimenting with a small set of entities to see what stuff I could create and the initial tests were a lot of fun.

After two years of avoiding the idea I recently found the time and energy to finish writing the article on puzzle logic I promised. Funny enough it turned out exactly how I imagined it would ... barking crazy!

A Thousand Words

When I look at my textures I see the history and they tell me a thousand words! The textures came from many cool places and I thought it might be interesting to share.

The Florentine Library

An architectural concept to explore the layout possibilities of a new photo sourced texture set I have been developing. The scene is of a dusty old medieval library with tall bookcases and richly coloured tiles on the floor. The vaulted ceiling is sprouting forth from the central columns and the room is split into warm and cold light spaces. The room is dressed in simple wooden furniture and copious amounts of large medieval books covered in cobwebs.

Industrial Texture Pack

This is a small collection of concrete and metal high resolution (1024 x 1024) textures that were used in the concept map The Bridge Crane. All of the textures are digitally photo sourced by me and are colour matched so that they can work together easily. The photos were taken from various locations around the city of Vancouver and it is amazing how angry some people can get when you just take pictures of rusty old metal doors and dirty light fixtures.

The Bridge Crane

This is an architectural concept for a computer game showing a bridge crane perched over an industrial mine shaft surrounded by a large factory environment. This concept was inspired by a Russian Aluminum Processing Plant which had an awesome communist scale, where everything felt larger than life and over-sized elements were favoured over small and fragile mechanics.

Triggerable Shaders

One of the primary effects used in the map Edge of Forever was to trigger shaders between different states. It was an essential component of the environmental immersion because it gave valuable feedback to the player.
