Every tech style texture pack needs a selection of SFX lights and this pack is no exception.
I've decided to create larger light templates than normal so that you have the option of creating your own smaller
versions if you need them.
The first style is a standard square block with either a square or circular light in the middle.
The light comes in 4 flavours of blue / red / yellow / white on 2 different colour tone backgrounds and
finally, a grate covered light version for good measure. Thus giving you a grand total of 12 variants.
I have created the textures to be cut-up easily by arranging natural break points on the texture
as highlighted below with dotted yellow lines. This gives you a 128x128 followed by
a 96, 80 and finally a 64 version which can work equally as well as the original.

The octagonal design comes in 4 flavours of blue / red / yellow / white on 2 different colour tone backgrounds and
finally a grate covered light version for good measures. If my maths does not fail me, you get a choice of 12 variants.
The cut up sequence on the octagonal lights comes in two different versions, depending on how much 3-point
cutting you want to do. Below are some examples of how the texture can be cut up, highlighted with yellow dotted lines.
The first version is just a standard octagonal shape which can be extended from a wall / ceiling
surface and the edges can be painted with a trim texture. The inner circle pattern can also line up nicely
with a patch mesh - cyclinder. This texture is also available in non-light versions which can be used as a
bulkhead for pipes etc.
The second version is a bit more tricky because it is designed to give you the same amount
of brush surfaces as the first version, except one set of edges are stretched outwards. I have included two editor
viewpoints to show you what I mean. If you have any problems with cutting up of the brush then I suggest
you find a tutorial on the Internet about 3 point cutting. Hopefully, the tutorial will show how
to cut up a single brush to create more complex shapes.
Once you have cut the brush and painted it, you will notice that the top and bottom faces
of the brush are not lined up correctly. On editor picture 1 below, I have included
some example surface parameters that you can use to get round this problem. The red zone on the picture below
includes all of the brush faces highlighted.

Ok, maybe this is a wacky idea but at the time it sounded good. I was busy creating all the wall
textures and was drawing various bland details on grill backgrounds ... when suddenly, (well maybe not but it adds to the drama of the story)
I thought it would be cool if I could create textures specially for detail only.
So, I took the original wall textures and broke them down into an origami style template. I painted on solid
edge lines and added some minimal shadows and eventually produced a very flat looking texture.
I then wrapped it around some funcky brush work and it did look good. (Easily impressed nowadays!)
Now I will admit, to look at these textures they do feel a bit flat. But they were
designed to be wrapped around certain brush shapes and should gain their depth from the
brush shape not the texture. It's sort of like a model skin but more flexible because
you can create more shapes and angles from them. Map models are generally very limited in what angles
you can have them at, but with this method you get maximum flexibility with minimum amount of textures.
Below is two sample images of the detail lights with some yellow dotted lines on them. The dotted lines are there
to show you where the texture pattern repeats itself. I have created duplicates so that you have more
variants of the same pattern, so that all the detail trims don't look exactly the same.
On the bottom row below are some editor images of what the textures look like when they are wrapped around some
brush work. Hopefully this will give you a better idea of what I was thinking when I had this wacky idea!
