The original plan was to create a CTF map with a tudor castle theme and the front of each
base (facing each other) was going to be a recreation of the front gate of
Hampton Court.
The pre-base area behind the main facade was to be a hub of converging routes and have
multiple paths on either side leading to a flag room. The final area would be a hedgerow garden maze
with a flag at the back next to a large wall fountain.
After spending so much time playing around with
groin vault archway
designs I decided to turn the map into doodle so that I could experiment with ascending roof
space and moody lighting. All of the windows were turned back into transparent glass and the
performance considerations were disregarded so that the visual style could be
explored better.
The map is using a texture pack called Medieval
which was specially created for another map called on the Edge of Forever.
The ceiling space was designed on a large grid of interlocking squares with ascending
archways connected to large central pillars. The map features no gameplay and is just
something to look at visually. The screenshots above have been tested on several monitors
and are suppose to be darkish and moody.
