Rocket Ledge Plasma Tunnels Up or Under? Red Armour
 Background Information
This zip file contains the competition version of 'Focal Point' which was submitted to the Noghost mapping contest, that ran from the 1st of November to the 12th of December 2009.

The map was initially designed and built in two weeks and had one further week of polish and bug fixing to bring the map up to a professional standard. (Please check the main focal point page for further details of the various revision changes)

The mapping competition was lucky enough to have prizes donated by various sponsors (AMD, ATI etc) and this meant that the level had to contain advertising images displayed in player visible locations around the map.

There were no restrictions on what type of map or theme that could be entered into the competition, so I decided to make small FFA style level using bright colours and minimal texture detail so that the architectural shapes could be seen better.

Single Item Layout A large amount of the noghost online servers use an old Quake3 point release (1.16n) and I was advised by the competition organizers that it would be worthwhile to make my map run with this version.

Point release 1.16n compatibility was not an ideal situation, but I felt it was important to gain access to the maximum amount of online servers. The map was visually simplified so that the texture/shader limit was not reached and designed to support FFA gameplay only.

The layout of the map is one large ring shape with an upper and lower route connected via various sets of stairs and jump pads scattered throughout the level. This design allows players to flow around the map quickly and be able switch routes to intercept other players.

The main area of the map is set in a split level arena with 2 weapons and various health and armour scattered below. The beam has a constant health (+5 per second) regeneration feature and spawns quad/haste powerup's for extra mayhem.
